# Add the reviews widget to your website

Your best reviews are more persuasive on your own homepage than buried on a profile somewhere. The Stacks reviews widget puts them there: pick a style, copy one snippet, and paste it into your site. It fills itself with your reviews and keeps updating on its own as new ones come in — no plugin, no code to maintain.

## Before you start

- You'll need the **Reviews** module (it's on by default). Any signed-in teammate with Reviews access can open the widget page and grab the code.
- Have **some reviews to show** — either connect your **Google Business Profile** in Review Settings (so your 5-star Google reviews appear) or collect **happy feedback** through review requests. You can paste the code before you have any; the widget simply stays hidden until reviews exist.
- You'll need to be able to **edit your website's HTML** — an "embed" or "custom HTML" block on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or your own code all work.

## Step by step

1. **Open the Website Widget page.** In Stacks, open the **Reviews** module and click **Website Widget** (🔗) in the left menu.
2. **Pick a style.** Choose **Carousel** (scrolling cards), **Grid**, **List**, or **Rating badge** — a compact pill showing your star rating and review count. The **live preview** on the right renders your real reviews so you see exactly what visitors will get.
3. **Set theme, color, and count.** Switch between **Light** and **Dark**, choose an **accent color** (it starts from your Review Settings brand color), and set **how many reviews** to show — anywhere from 1 to 24. (The rating badge shows your overall score, so the count option hides for that style.)
4. **Copy the embed code.** The snippet updates as you change the options. Click **Copy code** — you'll get two short lines: a `<script>` tag and a placeholder `<div>`.
5. **Paste it into your website.** Drop **both lines** into your site's HTML wherever you want the reviews to appear, then save and publish. Your reviews show up right there.

The snippet you copy looks like this:

The `<div>` is just the spot the reviews drop into — leave its id exactly as copied. The web address in the `src` is **your own Stacks subdomain**: that's how the widget knows which business's reviews to load. Keep that address exactly as copied and the snippet works on any website you paste it into — your reviews load straight from Stacks.

## Good to know

- **It updates on its own.** The widget pulls your latest showcase reviews (cached for about 5 minutes), so fresh Google reviews and new happy feedback appear without you touching your site again.
- **It won't fight your design.** The widget renders in an isolated container (Shadow DOM), so your site's styles can't leak in and its styles can't leak out onto your page.
- **It stays hidden until you have reviews.** With nothing to show, the widget renders nothing at all — it never leaves an empty box on your page. Paste the code now; it fills in the moment you have reviews.
- **Only your best reviews are shown.** Highlight some of your best and most helpful customer reviews; anything else stays off your site. Names are shortened to a first name and last initial (e.g. "Jane D.").
- **One snippet, four looks.** Change the style, theme, or color any time — re-copy the code, or just edit the values in the tag you already pasted. A small "Reviews by Stacks CRM" link sits beneath the reviews.

## Frequently asked

Do I need to be a developer to add it?

No. Copy the two lines and paste them into an HTML or "embed" block — WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and most site builders all have one. The script loads **asynchronously**, so it won't slow your page down.

Which reviews actually show up?

Some of your best and most helpful customer reviews, shown with their written comments. You feature your strongest ones; anything else stays off your site.

I pasted the code but nothing appears — why?

Usually one of two things: you don't have any showcase reviews yet, or the `<script>` address got changed. The widget identifies your business by the **Stacks subdomain in the `src`**, so paste the snippet as-is and leave that address exactly as it was generated.
